Training Week – August 20-24, 2012

The IACPES Training Week in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics will be held the week of Aug 20-24, 2012 at York University. Funding is provided by NSERC.

This training week is mandatory to all IACPES trainees. 

Graduate and undergraduate students and PDFs who have an interest in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics are welcome to attend; professional scientists are also welcome to register for the summer course.

Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for all graduate students and/or postdocs that are formally supported by the training program.

The Training week is composed of three activities as follows:

IACPES Symposium Day – Monday, August 20
Summer Course in ACP – Tuesday – Thursday, August 21-23
Training day – Friday, August 24

1.  IACPES Symposium Day, Monday, August 20

The objective of the symposium is to co-locate all students and participants in the program, to foster discussion of future research, opportunities for exchange, and professional networking.

The symposium day will include presentations from all IACPES graduate students.  This will form  part of the trainees professional development.  The symposium will also be open for presentations by other graduate students.  A poster session will form part of the afternoon.

This symposium (mandatory for all IACPES trainees) is free.  It will be attended by graduate students, undergraduate students, PDFs, investigators and collaborators; professional participants from industry and government organizations are also welcome to attend.

2.  Summer Course in Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics – Tuesday – Thursday, August 21-23

This 3-day course of integrated topics in atmospheric chemistry and physics is for all trainees supported by the program, graduate and undergraduate students, PDFs and other interested professional participants who wish to attend.  Registration in advance is required.

3.  IACPES Training day – Friday, August 24

The last day of the training program is devoted to student training. This year we will feature Labview.  Its feature hands-on training activity will require all trainees and others to register in advance.  This training module is open to students only. Priority is given to trainees who are formally part of the IACPES program. There will be room for students on a limited basis. National Instruments Labview Core 1 (condensed)

The course introduces LabVIEW, its features, dataflow programming and LabVIEW architectures.  It will help you to develop test & measure, data aquisition, instrument control, data logging and analysis applications using LabVIEW.  The training will feature two instructors, and hands-on training with computer interfaced test and measurement equipment in a computer lab environment.  The course is available to IACPES and other students and post-docs, with a maximum capacity of 25 (first come first serve).  IACPES students are given first priority.  This is an introductory course, prior experience with LabVIEW is not necessary.
